Whoopi Goldberg to Star in Annie Musical Tour

Whoopi Goldberg, the iconic actress and moderator of ABC’s The View, is set to hit the road this holiday season with a touring production of the beloved musical Annie. She will be taking on the role of the villainous Miss Hannigan, who is known for terrorizing Annie and the other girls at the orphanage. This will be Goldberg’s first appearance in a production of Annie, and she is excited to bring this iconic character to life on stage.

The touring production will kick off in Chicago at the Chicago Theatre from November 12 through December 1. From there, it will move to New York City for a limited five-week engagement at The Theater at Madison Square Garden from December 4, 2024 through January 5, 2025. Goldberg is no stranger to the New York stage, having appeared in Broadway productions seven times in the past.

Excitement Surrounding the Production

The return of Annie to New York City is being hailed as a dream come true by Charles Strouse, one of the co-writers of the show’s famous score. He expressed his enthusiasm for having an iconic figure like Whoopi Goldberg join the production, stating that it is a gift to everyone involved. The original Annie production took Broadway by storm in 1977, winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Producers have announced that additional casting for the tour will be revealed soon, with full Equity casts for both the Chicago and New York City performances.
