The Reunion: A Saudi Comedian’s Return to the Big Screen

Saudi stand-up comedian and actor Fahad Albutairi is set to make his return to the big screen after a five-year break in the upcoming family vacation comedy “Al Eid Eiden”. The film, scheduled for release in July, follows Albutairi as a workaholic father on a trip to Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island with his wife, played by Emirati actress Meera Almidfa, and their unruly children, portrayed by Abdulmajeed Fahad, Layla Fahad, and Abdulmohsen Al Harbi. The storyline revolves around a seemingly disastrous vacation that ultimately brings the family closer together.

Known as the “Seinfeld of Saudi Arabia” in the 2010s, Albutairi’s last theatrical project was the 2019 body-swap comedy “Rashid and Rajab”. During his hiatus, he made appearances in the Saudi version of The Office, a Netflix-backed Telfaz 11 feature called Alkhallat+, and lent his voice to the popular animation series “Masameer County”. With his return to the big screen in “Al Eid Eiden”, fans are eager to see Albutairi’s comedic talent shine once again.

The cast of “Al Eid Eiden” features Egyptian actor Bassem Youssef’s collaborator Shadi Alfons and veteran actor Hassan Rajab Alhammadi in supporting roles. The film is backed by Image Nation Abu Dhabi and boasts an all-female Emirati creative team, including director Maitha Al Awadhi, producer Rawia Abdallah, and writer Sara Al Sayegh. This collaboration highlights the talent and diversity within the region’s film industry.

Front Row Filmed Entertainment, a Dubai-based distributor, will release “Al Eid Eiden” theatrically on July 11 in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf countries. The film will be part of the distributor’s new mainstream cinema label, Haywire, marking a strategic move to bring Middle Eastern cinema to a wider audience. With its star-studded cast, engaging storyline, and talented crew, “Al Eid Eiden” is poised to be a success in the region’s cinema landscape.
