This deal was announced by Helen Lee-Kim of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Naoya Kinoshita, CEO of Kino Films and Kinoshita Group. The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, is currently in post-production, with a release date set for April 18, 2025 in North America. Kino Films expects to release the biopic in Japan in 2025.

The ensemble cast of the biopic is led by Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the role of Michael. Other prominent actors such as Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, and Juliano Krue Valdi will also play key roles in the film. According to the logline, “Michael” aims to provide audiences with a deep and honest portrayal of the iconic yet complex figure known as the King of Pop. The movie will delve into Jackson’s successes and struggles, both personal and public, as well as the constant media scrutiny he faced throughout his career.
