In response to the allegations of sexual harassment made by former employees, Lizzo, the four-time Grammy winner, announced that she would be taking some time off. In an Instagram post, she mentioned that she was taking a gap year to protect her peace. Displaying her weight loss in a one-piece black bathing suit, Lizzo stood silently in the rain on the balcony of her vacation home in Bali. Fans flooded her comments section with compliments on her appearance and words of encouragement.
Back in March, Lizzo hinted at stepping away from music due to the negative attention she was receiving. She expressed frustration about constantly being targeted with lies and being the subject of ridicule because of her appearance. The singer felt overwhelmed by the negative energy and stated that she didn’t sign up for this kind of treatment. Despite initially announcing her decision to quit, Lizzo later clarified that she wasn’t leaving music but rather choosing not to engage with the negativity.
In August 2023, Lizzo faced legal trouble when three of her former backup dancers sued her for creating a toxic work environment and sexual harassment. The lawsuit alleged disturbing incidents during a trip to Amsterdam, which Lizzo denied, calling the claims sensationalized and false. Following these accusations, six additional employees came forward with similar harassment allegations against the singer. Lizzo was also sued by a member of her wardrobe team, Asha Daniels, who claimed to have faced verbal and physical abuse from Lizzo’s wardrobe manager.
Despite the mounting legal challenges, Lizzo decided to take a stand and asked the LA Superior Court to dismiss the harassment lawsuits as ridiculous. She demanded a jury trial to address the accusations made against her. In October, Lizzo’s legal team received support from 18 of her staff members who signed declarations contradicting the claims made by the accusers. The singer remained determined to clear her name and defend herself against the allegations that threatened her career.
