MGK Celebrates One Year of Sobriety: A Look into His Journey

MGK, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, recently shared on the “Dumb Blonde” podcast that he has achieved one year of sobriety after going to rehab in August 2023. This marks a significant milestone in his journey towards better mental and physical health.

Overcoming Challenges

During his time in rehab, the Grammy nominee learned various methods to address his anger and better understand his condition. Despite some medical professionals losing faith in him, MGK persevered and ultimately found peace within himself. He described his condition as a “constant tightrope walk,” indicating the ongoing challenges he faces.

MGK credited his partner, Megan Fox, for being a crucial source of support during his sobriety journey. He mentioned that she has been extremely helpful in dealing with his psychological withdrawals, highlighting the importance of having a strong support system in recovery.

The rapper admitted to being hard on himself but expressed gratitude for being able to share his true self with others. He acknowledged that he had previously relied on his art to express himself but now feels more comfortable opening up about his struggles and accomplishments.

Addressing Substance Abuse

During the podcast, MGK confessed to abusing substances such as weed, alcohol, hydrocodone, Percocet, and Vyvans in the past. He joked about a potential drinking contest with a friend and reminisced about his past behavior, emphasizing the drastic changes he has made in his life.

Collaboration with Jelly Roll

Jelly Roll, a country singer and friend of MGK, has also been open about his struggles with substance abuse. He credited marijuana for helping him manage his anxiety and stay away from hard drugs. The two musicians collaborated on a song called “Lonely Road,” which featured a music video starring Megan Fox.

Despite the challenges and obstacles he has faced, MGK remains optimistic about the future. He continues to prioritize his sobriety and mental well-being, knowing that the journey ahead may be tough but ultimately worth it. With the support of loved ones and a newfound sense of self-acceptance, MGK is committed to maintaining his sobriety and sharing his story with others.
