Exploring the Transition from Nordic Noir to Comedy-Drama

Piv Bernth, a key figure in the Nordic Noir genre, is making a significant shift with her latest project, Feelings & Things. This comedy-drama, set in a shopping mall, marks a departure from the dark and brooding dramas she is known for producing. Bernth, along with her production company Apple Tree Productions, is reuniting with Ditte Hansen and Louise Mieritz, known for their work in the comedy genre, for this new venture.

Ditte Hansen and Louise Mieritz, the writer-director-actor duo behind Chorus Girls, are once again teaming up with Apple Tree Productions for Feelings & Things. Known for their work in comedy, Hansen and Mieritz are challenging stereotypes by creating complex and engaging roles for women in the 50-something age group, a demographic often overlooked in the entertainment industry.

Feelings & Things promises to be a relatable and universal story, focusing on the employees of a shopping mall and their interactions. The plot revolves around the formation of a support group within the mall, where the employees seek the help of a less-than-qualified psychologist. The underlying message of unity and strength in solidarity, reminiscent of Chorus Girls, is set to resonate with audiences beyond Danish borders.

Apple Tree Productions has already outlined a treatment and series arc for Feelings & Things. Hansen and Mieritz will begin work on the script once they wrap up their current feature project. With TV2 likely serving as the domestic broadcaster, Apple Tree Productions is on the lookout for potential co-production partners. Furthermore, ITV Studios’ sales arm will handle the international distribution of the series, indicating high expectations for its global appeal.

By venturing into the realm of comedy-drama, Piv Bernth and her collaborators are demonstrating their versatility and willingness to experiment with different genres. Feelings & Things represents a departure from the norm, showcasing a diverse range of storytelling that is sure to captivate audiences around the world.
