Apple Original Films has once again made a splash in the film industry with the announcement of their Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt. This marks the sixth time an Apple Original Films title has made its way to the big screen, and the anticipation is already building for its June 27, 2025 release.
Warner Bros. Secures Rights
In a strategic move, Warner Bros. has secured the rights to handle both the domestic and overseas distribution of the Formula 1 movie. This decision comes after the success of other recent releases such as Paramount’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Universal’s Argylle, and Sony’s Napoleon, Fly Me to the Moon, and Wolfs.
Deadline first reported that Apple acquired the F1 movie package for $130 million-$140 million, excluding above-the-line compensation. This substantial investment demonstrates Apple’s commitment to producing high-quality content for a global audience. The movie is set to have an offshore release on June 25, 2025, with Imax venues also included in the distribution plan.
Brad Pitt is set to play the lead role in the Formula 1 movie, portraying a former driver who makes a comeback to the sport. Joining him is Damson Idris as his teammate at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid. The film features an ensemble cast including Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo, adding depth and talent to the project.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the Formula 1 movie was made in collaboration with Formula 1 itself, with filming taking place at actual Grand Prix races. This unique approach gives the film an authentic feel as the characters compete against the titans of the sport.
