However, despite the high viewership, the telecast was met with a flurry of complaints from disappointed viewers.
One viewer took to social media to express their frustration, saying, “It’s four minutes after the hour and they are stringing network promos together instead of going to programming, Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. You never see this.” Another viewer echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Very little focus on the actual fireworks and too much on performances.”
Many viewers complained about the excessive focus on musical performances during the telecast, rather than showcasing the fireworks display itself. One user pointed out, “Why did we need to watch the singers vs the Macy’s fireworks?” This sentiment was reiterated by multiple viewers who felt that the telecast was more of a concert than a fireworks show.
The disappointment was palpable among viewers, with one user expressing, “I used to always watch the Macy’s Fireworks but I couldn’t sit through it this year. People aren’t tuning in to watch a concert. It’s called ‘Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks’ for a reason.”
Aside from the focus on performances, viewers also highlighted technical issues during the telecast. One user criticized NBC for missing the grand finale live and rolling credits prematurely. They wrote, “Worst was rolling credits during the recorded finale, cause they went to commercial. Brutal.”

For the first time in over a decade, Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks moved to the west side of Manhattan, launching from barges along the Hudson River. This change in location was a departure from the past 9 years when the fireworks display took place on the East River. Despite the change in location, the display featured more than 60,000 shells that reached over 1,000 feet into the sky.
